SCSD Athletics Mission Statement (Click link)

Stevenson-Carson School District Educational-Based Athletics builds the whole student with responsibility, commitment, and ethics, brings our school and local communities together, encourages diversity and teamwork, teaches discipline and accountability, empowers student-athletes for high school and beyond, and provides an extension of the classroom in creating a stimulating and willing teaching and learning environment.

We will develop a culture of fairness, integrity, inclusiveness, and respect in our athletic programs. Our student-athletes will leave each practice, game and season with an abundance of fun and fulfilling experiences.

Bulldog and Royal Athletics are committed to excellence in athletics while supporting the
educational mission of Stevenson High School and
Wind River Middle School.

Philosophy and Mission of Bulldog/Royal Athletics

The Interscholastic Athletic Programs at Stevenson High School and Wind River Middle School are important parts of a student’s academic experience. Extracurricular activities, such as sports in the WIAA’s Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons, are vital in developing the whole student. Extracurricular is defined as “pursued in addition to the normal course of study.” It is the philosophy and mission of all extracurricular activities in the Stevenson-Carson School District that our Interscholastic Athletic Program is just that:  In addition to the normal course of study.

Academics will always be at the forefront of our daily activities, goals, and workload. The Interscholastic Athletic Program will be used to supplement a student’s educational experience and growth. We will stress academics and learning not only in school, but also on the track, field, court, and mat. The Stevenson-Carson School District is committed to providing each student sound educational principles and committed to contributing to the well-being of our student-athletes.

The Interscholastic Athletic Program is designed for athletes who wish to compete in a highly organized, highly competitive program and build their skill levels to optimal and maximal levels of development. Our athletes must have the desire to abide by the rules necessary to participate and must work towards developing strong character traits and behaviors, positively demonstrated by their actions towards their peers, staff members, officials, community members, opponents and their families, in and out of the competition arena.

Our Extracurricular programs serve as an extension of our school, district and local community. No student who abides by these beliefs, should be deprived of the right to participate because of financial needs, nationality, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or gender identification.

The main goal of the Interscholastic Athletic Program is to provide a well-rounded, developmental, productive, and positive experience for all based on a commitment to excellence in modeling, teaching, and coaching from our staff members.

At all levels of participation, our emphasis will always be placed on the safety, physical, mental, social and emotional growth, and building respect and sportsmanship in our athletes. Extracurricular activities in the Stevenson-Carson School District should be conducted in such a manner that they provide a positive experience for the athletes, the students, and our spectator base.

We believe that culture, defined as “that which encompasses the social behavior and norms found in human societies,” is best built when relationships are built. Culture drives our philosophy and our mission. The most important relationship in ensuring we possess a strong and positive culture in SHS/WRMS Athletics is between the player(s) and the coach(es). We will stand behind our coaches as parents stand behind their children, and will work proactively with all groups to ensure that relationships are built and our culture is strong.

A Code of Ethics for All

1. Emphasize the proper ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and fair play
2. Eliminate all possibilities which tend to destroy the best values of the game
3. Stress the values derived from playing the game fairly
4. Show courtesy to opponents, spectators, and officials during games and matches
5. Establish a positive relationship and environment between visitors and hosts
6. Respect the integrity and judgment of sports officials
7. Achieve a thorough understanding and acceptance of the rules of the game and the standards of eligibility
8. Encourage leadership, use of initiative, and good judgement by all participants
9. Recognize that the purpose of athletics is to promote the physical, mental, moral, social, and emotional well-being of the individuals participating
